Your Best Dressed Body (Triangle Man)

There are many different body shapes and sizes out there. And depending on your particular body type, one should know what to wear to make their body look its best; male or female. Because there are a number of body types per gender it will take time to cover them all, so stay tuned to learn about yours.

This week will cover the Male Triangle Body. This individual shape is identified by shoulders that are proportionately more narrow than the midsection. In many cases, unfortunately, the gentleman acquires this shape with age and thankfully is not synonymous with being out of shape. However, the more triangular proportions are realized, the less clothing proportions will accommodate. But even though you have your work cut out for you when it comes to a wardrobe full of flattering attire, don't fret Triangle Man, here are some tips to help your situation.

Like the Oval Body, and most others, your objective is to create balance between upper and lower body, shoulders and waist. The use of prints, checked patterns and vertical stripes paired with solid colours will help to camouflage and balance out shoulders with the midsection.

As with Ovals, the Male Triangle Body would do well with a pinstriped suit as a wardrobe piece. Pinstriping will add structure to your shoulders while minimizing your midsection. Unlike the Oval, checker patterned blazers and shirts will accomplish the same objective. Remember, your objective is structure, structure, structure not slouchy or sloppy, so gravitate to single breasted jackets/blazers with this type of shoulder and avoid the latter as the unstructured will only serve to accentuate your sloping shoulders. When it comes to colours, your shirts should tend toward light colours and pants toward dark. While it is possible to pull off horizontal stripes and colour blocking, if concentrated around your shoulders/upper torso, it's best to keep shirts one solid colour, especially if just starting out on stylish endeavors. For your lower half, be sure your wardrobe includes straight and wide leg pants.

Some things to avoid: Bright colours and horizontal stripes. Unless utilized as stated above, and sparingly, it's best to leave these out of one's wardrobe selections. If your individual personality gravitates toward brighter colours, regulate them to accessory items like socks, pocket squares and the like. Polo shirts are another item, as these tend to slenderize and slim the neck and shoulders, which is the opposite of what the Triangle Body Male must achieve. Bold, over the top belts are a definite pass, as they will only serve to focus attention on your midsection. Finally, like the Oval Body Male, Triangle Body Males should opt to leave skinny, slim, and tapered pants firmly out of wardrobe selections.

Once you've settled on some flattering wardrobe items, Triangle Man, elevate them to the next level with a visit to your local Tailor. This will ensure

that your items fit perfectly and have you looking your absolute best.

Be sure to enjoy the journey while creating your own unique style!
